Thread: Ragin Brass

  1. ooh LA La. Ragin Brass

A contest is under way at Louisiana to name the band which plays at home basketball games. Band Director Brian Taylor said a grand prize winner will be announced during the basketball game on Nov. 24. The winner will receive a package of UL gifts.

"The band is an important part of the game and we really want to give these kids an identity," said Taylor. The deadline to submit suggestions is Nov. 17.

Names can be sent by mail to Name the Band, Attn. Brian Taylor, P.O. Box 41207, Lafayette, LA 70504; or by email to btaylor@louisiana.edu. If sending email, please put Name Search in subject line.

Based on "Cage" being a basketball basket, and
"Upstage" being at the rear of the main stage. . .
I would like to make two suggestions:

    "Ragin Cagers"
    "UpStagin Ragin Cagers"

    UL Basketball Basketball Band Names...

Hey guys, the contest is going on right now to name the Basketball Band. I'm part of it, and am curious to see if any of you have some names that you'd like to share just to give me an idea of what's floating around out there? Thanks.

    Huh?

Anyway, I sent in my entry. We'd come up with Cajun Canaille and Ragin Cajun Roundball Rockers. But I didn't submit either of those.

It's just a little inside joke with Brock "I like to wear my LSU hat UL band member."

Wow man. Good times, good times.

I'm thinking of wearing my BRAND SPANKING NEW LSU JACKET to the next home Cajun basketball game, neatly resting it on the back of my chair so that it can be seen on national TV.

I really don't care if ULL students wear LSU stuff, but there's a line that should be drawn when representing the university.

    *Phew*

Anyway, thanks for sharing some names you've come up with so far. Great stuff!

Brock, why don't you care if UL students wear lsu gear? If they are so lsu oriented they should attend that school. It irks me to see someone attending a UL sporting event wearing lsu clothing, unless we are playing the tigers. I can assure you that if the reverse occurs lsu fans would be in an uproar, and god forbid that an lsu student would sport UL clothing on the BR campus.

I do care, but it's one of those things that irks me internally and I know I have no control over. It's like me telling somebody not to wear FUBU clothing because I like Fat Albert clothing or something.

Another reason that I don't get too frustrated with it is because LSU is such a big school. People feel proud of LSU the same way I do about the Saints. I'll wear my Saints cap anywhere and everywhere, and I'd be upset if I went to Tampa Bay and Saints clothing was outlawed.

So yes, it does upset me that some people choose to wear LSU clothing as a means to non-verbally take blows at ULL, but not so much when it's done in moderation. If somebody were to wear an LSU cap to class, I'd be no more upset than if somebody were to walk in with a Tulane hat. But it's when they're followed by a guy wearing an LSU cap, coat, and windpants that tries to down ULL at every chance they get because they feel that ULL is inferior to LSU that bothers me.

I"m afraid that I would not last long on the campus. If you can't be loyal to your school you should enroll at the one that is your first love. And Brock I see your point, but it just irks me to no end that we have these lsu idiots, I am being redundant, walking around like they own the place. I guess at 73 years of age I should relax and go with the flow, but it is not in my nature.
