UPDATE: The City of Broussard met tonight to annex a portion of Ambassador Caffery Parkway. Broussard tabled the decision and will work with Youngsville on a compromise.

One day after the Lafayette City-Parish Council voted to annex a portion of the new Ambassador Caffery Parkway, the City of Broussard could vote to annex a portion of the land adjacent to the road. It's 65 acres of land also being eyed by the City of Youngsville.
"This is prime real estate that's going to develop commercially and it's going to be worth a lot of money to the city of Youngsville as far as sales tax and property tax dollars," said Youngsville Mayor Wilson Viator.
Lafayette City-Parish attorney Pat Ottinger tells KATC that so long as municipalities follow the complex laws and procedures, annexations typically occur on a first-come, first serve basis.
The Broussard City Council will vote on their annexation proposal at a meeting Tuesday night; meantime Mayor Viator has called a special meeting for the Youngsville City Council to consider the annexation for Wednesday night. Viator says he's ready to take legal action, if necessary, to annex the 65 acres into Youngsville.
"If we have to go to court, fine, but we'll win in the end," Viator said.
