Convicted child molester and former priest Gilbert Gauthe is scheduled to be released from jail this week. Gauthe was arrested in April of 2008 for being in violation of Texas' sex offender registration law, by not registering as an offender.
He previously served 10 years of a 20-year sentence after being convicted in 1985 of molesting several Vermilion Parish boys, while serving as a priest with the Diocese of Lafayette. He also served at churches in Broussard and Iberia Parish.
Gauthe's case spawned an avalanche of sexual abuse lawsuits against priests; millions were paid to his victims.
