My reason for responding to the other poster was the hope the restaurant had re-opened somewhere. I would have been there tonight iif it were.
My first meal @ Stroud's was when they were located under the big oak tree in the curve just before getting into Abbeville. Then they located to the building across Kaliste Saloom Road from Randol's. Then to the building on Industrial Parkway. Now, unfortunately, closed.
I don't want to take this thread away from the initial inquiry, but a restaurant that reminds me of Stroud's in terms of the quality of the steak, the friendliness of the staff, and the reasonableness of the price is Hebert's in Nunez.
Thanks to all. No shortage of places to munch in Lafayette. I will be hitting the festival Saturday and then maybe one of the eateries mentioned.
don's seafood hut-best stuffed crab and stuffed shrimp in the city. also, a righteous rib-eye. for a special treat, the whole, stuffed grilled flounder.
soop's in maurice-the sisters to hebert's next door. the best fried shrimp in the area. also, 2 different sizes of pretty-good ribe-eye steak. and gumbo like your mamma made. just two of many. finally, only 3 real pizza places in lafayette-deano's, pizza village, and the real deal, alesi's, or as my children still refer to it, mr. mike's. enjoy!
Mr. Mike's, or Alesi's, serves my favorite Veal Parmesan. At least once a month, my wife and I go there just for that. Oddly enough, I finally ordered a pizza there a couple of years ago. My recollection of it is good, but I still need my veal fix each month.
One name not mentioned yet is Nash's in Broussard. Many great entree's but, their marinara sauce got a bit sweet for my taste. It was a sudden change. Yet one thing that keeps me returning is what I would describe as the absolute best appetizer in the region. Their Fish Beneighs. Lightly fried amberjack bites with an incredible dipping sauce.
But, ain't this just pure fun living in this area? There are so many places to get good food, frankly too many to mention. We've barely scratched the surface with so many good mom-and-pop establishments all over the region.
We are blessed here.
Thanks for the heads up. I wasn't even thinking about rain but there is a 60% chance as of right now. I will keep an eye on it.
