Hundreds came out to Sacred Heart Catholic church in Broussard Tuesday afternoon to pay homage to Walter Comeaux Jr. Comeaux's funeral precession was headed by police cars with flashing lights, followed by a 50 motorcade. His burial was a day of sadness but also celebration, paying tribute to the mark he's left in Lafayette.
Comeaux was Lafayette's first Parish President and also the first Parish President under consolidated government. He's remembered as the man who changed the face of Lafayette. Comeaux took office in 1983, and in his passing many say he will be missed. "He's been a gift to all of Acadiana and he will be truly, truly missed," said Pastor of Sacred Heart church Father Louis Richard.
Amongst many things some Comeaux's footprints in Lafayette include, the Clifton Chenier center, Eraste Landry Extension and the Camellia Bridge project. Apart from business, Comeaux is known as a friendly family loving man. "He was a wonderful person, a family man. We love him very much," said Friend and Former Employee, Susan Benoit.
