There is no denying she was probably the best assistant coach Alabama ever had. And there is no denying she gave 100% on every play as a player (softball, basketball, ....) and as an assistant coach, but only the coach gets praise or blame for how the team performs. She was not prepared for the shots she is getting from the media and fans.

To be a coach at a SEC school requires you to smile and coach. Recruiting is simple because you are in the SEC. The only schools you are competing against are other SEC schools and a few other upper tier programs across the country to recruit the top tier players. However, to be a coach at a "UL" requires 100 times more work and effort. You have to work for the players, (recruiting and keeping), the money, the schedule, the uniforms, the field, concessions.....you have to work your butt off. This takes a young coach with strive to succeed like no other.

I have always wish and wondered what it would be like for UL to be a top tier school in the country. We have had our moments in the spotlight and had a whiff of what it would be like, but never have maintained that level of superiority. But we always had the belief we could see those days in the future. But now it seems the future for "UL" schools is just so bleak. We can't compete with NIL programs. Our fans for the most part are fickle. The true Vermillion and White fans are here on the RP. But even those fans seem to be fading out. I get it, they are getting burnt out. Tired of all the excuses and the mountains we must jump over to be competitive in the NCAA, which only seems to cater to the have's and surely not the have nots.

So sorry for this rant, but back to my original thought. Coach Habetz looks stressed out to the breaking point and it would not surprise me if she steps down after this year.
Great post. I would like the Cajuns to go after Molly Fichtner over at ULM if this happens.

    Why drag Desormeaux into this?

He has his own share of not so smart 'in game' moves.

because both coaches are getting pitchforks when the real reasons or primary reasons for lack of success does not lie within in either case and a different coach would do little to remedy the ills. Put the pitch forks down and support these players and their coaches - remember these players chose LOUISIANA and all that came ( or did not come) with that choice to use up eligibility - the least we could do is give them utmost support and respect.

Answer the question instead of making a snide remark. She DID say [after making it clear that she thinks it was nobody's fault], that it was her responsibility. That does not contradict anything either Saint or I said.

No one is dragging Desormeaux into this. I think Vic is just saying that softball, football, and really all UL sports are suffering from the similar issues. Yes, Des has is own unique problems, but that is beside the larger point. Literally every UL sport has started to suffer recently. That can't be a coincidence.

Not 100% true. Men's Track & Field, and to a somewhat lesser degree Women's Track and Field are having their best results in over 20 years over the last two seasons.

Track & Field are NCAA sanctioned sports. Water Skiing is a club sport. Big difference.
