That is exactly why I encourage athletes from small schools to run track. It is the only sport where recruiting is 100% objective. A truly superior athlete playing class A in a team sport often gets overlooked because of the level of competition. That doesn't happen in track.
That 10.4 hundred don't care who you ran it against. And neither does the coach at any level. In fact, it is actually harder to run fast times when not pushed; not so much in the 100, but at 200 and especially 400 meters, having close competition will push you to better times.
