Senior Andrew Herrmann tossed his nation-leading third complete game of the season, and Louisiana rebounded from Friday's Sun Belt Conference loss with an 8-4 victory over No. 10 Southern Miss on Saturday afternoon before 4,121 fans at M.L. "Tigue" Moore Field at Russo Park.
Herrmann (4-2) delivered 108 pitches, including 81 strikes, allowing five hits, walking one and striking out nine. He worked through a 24-pitch ninth inning, surrendering a two-run home run to Kyle Morrison, but struck out the side to seal the win.
The rubber game of the three-game series is scheduled for Sunday at 1 p.m. Louisiana (20-15, 5-9 SBC) will send left-hander Ty Roman to the mound, while Southern Miss (25-10, 8-6 SBC) is expected to counter with right-hander Thomas Crabtree.
