I listened to Jay's interview with Deggs a little over a week ago. Jay asked about his approach as it was a big topic across message boards, social media, etc. Deggs went on to describe 7 different types of approaches. Now I did not play college ball, so I do not know what it takes to play at that level. But I feel like 7 different approaches is a bit much, especially with freshmen filling a good portion of your starting lineup. If that really is the case, I think these guys are thinking way too much. Hitting a baseball is hard enough without having to worry about which approach we're working with this AB.
Nobody looks comfortable at the plate. Late on fastballs in fastball counts. Swinging at breaking balls out of the zone. Staring at belt-high fastballs that split the plate in half.
Is the Deggs approach the issue? I would vote yes. But there are so many other factors. Freshmen figuring out the game at the college level. Scouting reports are out. We knew we had offensive issues since day one, so maybe we missed on recruiting again. Who knows..
