Really? So a program that is top 10 in program wins [1900+], has been to 33 NCAA Tournaments, 8 Super Regionals and 6 WCWS is not elite? What more does it take to be considered elite in your mind?

    Is LSU Elite?

    # of coaches stolen by p4:

    Gonzaga Basketball = 0
    Cajuns Softball = 2

These stats actually aren't that uncommon in softball. They are uncommon in the Sun Belt, and they are better than any other sport at UL, but they do not automatically make you elite.

So to answer the second question...no. LSU is not elite.

Out of 286 teams, what/where would the elite cutoff point be?

There are 308 D1 Softball programs. D1 Softball ranked UL # 19 in the first quarter of this century. For some that might not be elite; for me it is.

I see it this way: Every year, 64 teams make the tournament. Only 16 make the Supers. Only 8 make the WCWS. Even if we accepted that UL is the 19th best program of all time, that would mean that they should make the tournament every year, but they should fall outside the Super Regionals. Of course, anything can happen, so it's possible that they will make the Super Regionals some years, and it's even possible that they make the WCWS in a good year. But this is far from elite.

UL is obviously a good program. But they aren't elite when you compare them to some other teams on the list.

Should elite be graded on a curve or percentage?

If these stats aren't that on common then list all the teams that have accomplished this. Up until last year UL was 1 of only 6 teams since 2000 to be in every ncaa regional. 6 out of 308!

Wow, that's impressive. With that many tournament appearances, you'd almost wish they ranked somewhere inside the top 20 in WCWS appearances for that same time period.
