Marceaux had a hell of a weekend at the plate. She definitely stepped up her game. Smith has really digressed to the point where she is basically an automatic out. It's probably time to take her out of the lineup and give some reps to someone else to see what happens. Our pitching just isn't D1 quality right now, much less Sunbelt quality. Mackles is probably our hardest thrower but she has a location problem. I would like to see Habetz give her chance and give her a leash on the walks. We have got to do try something different that throwing Noble and Hoover who each barely throw over 60.

I agree that pitching is an issue, but Mackles is not the answer. I do think that Tipton should be given a start or two. In conference she has our best ERA and the lowest BAA on the staff. In conference play, our pitching has generally been good enough to win, but 10 unearned runs in 9 games have killed us; as has an overall BA of .277, 30 points below our season average and a fielding percentage of .947, 19 points below our season average and last in the conference.

Top of 6th yesterday down by 4, we get leadoff hitter on thanks to an error. What do we do? Sac bunt, why in the heck would you give up an out when you are down to your last 6 outs. I guess she had no confidence the batter could get a hit which is another issue entirely as to who should have been in the lineup at that position. We ended scoring 2 afterwards, who knows we possibly could have scored more if we had not given up an out.

You are the delusional one. It has only been 2 years since we made a super regional. Last year we broke a string of consecutive seasons in the NCAA tournament dating back to 1999, and a string of 13 consecutive seasons in which we advanced to at least the championship game of an NCAA regional. Two years ago, and for at least 30 years before that, we were an elite national program.

It may still be hard hard work, but it is much easier to maintain something than it is to get there.

Not saying she is the answer by any stretch, but with the ability of our starters, we really need someone to be able to give us a few more innings or a possible spot start every so often.

Look, I know there's some frustration with the baseball program right now, but let's not forget, the previous three seasons under Deggs:

2017: 35-21-1; Missed the post season
2018: 34-25; Missed the post season
2019: 28-31; Missed the post season

Under Deggs:

2020: 8-9 then COVID ____
2021: 32-23; Missed the post season
2022: 37-23; SBC Tournament champs and Regional appearance
2023: 41-24; Regional appearance
2024: 42-20; Regional championship game appearance
2025: 27-31; Missed post season

A bit early to give up on Deggs. He also had a track record as the head baseball coach at SHSU. We'll see if Coach Habetz's program can start to show some improvement like our baseball team under Deggs was showing prior to last season. Not looking good so far, but she'll be the head coach again next season unless she chooses to step down.

Simple yes or no question. If the Cajuns don't make the SBC tournament this season, that they are hosting should Alyson Habetz return as head coach?
