It is all ok. She is one of us...
Here's what might be part of the issue. In DI, DII and DIII softball, there are a total of 800 teams. Last year the Cajuns had more sacrifice bunts than 799 of those teams. They led all divisions.
Going into this year, especially with a new hitting coach and newer players who seem to have more power, it was hoped maybe the team could not play as much of a small ball game as they did last year.
At this point in the season, they lead the league with 33. USF (University of South Florida) leads all D1 teams with 36. So, I'm assuming the Cajuns are in the top five.
The Cajuns may not get to 80 this year, but they will get to many more than most fans were hoping for.
Remember, a lot of Cajun fans have been around for a very long time. What they did not see for the last 25 years was small ball. Over those seasons, the Cajuns averaged 16 sacrifice bunts a season. It was more like gorilla ball with some previous teams hitting more than 100 home runs a season.
we could replace EVERY bunt with a HR and we still wouldn’t hit 80 HR’s this season - maybe that should tell you something
Probably no way to track but what has been the ratio of how many successful bunts per bunt attempt
I believe most would agree that 4 runs is about the most that a typical small ball team will score. Care to guess how many games we have won when scoring 4 or fewer runs?
To save you some time: We beat Howard 4-0 and we beat Texas State 2-1.
Also, small ball works best against teams that are not so good defensively. Care to guess the teams in the conference with the highest fielding percentages?
Again, to save you some time: 1. USM, 2. ULM, 3. TxSt.
I will leave any judgment of our coaches decision making up to others, but I can say beyond reasonable doubt that small ball does not and will not work for our team.
Successful bunts or any bunt attempt? Lol
Most of the players that we have to depend on to win are not having good years. We are making silly errors and playing for one run innings. But you need elite pitching to win that way and we don’t have that. I don’t see any help coming down the road. As we only had 2 coaches recruiting last summer. We are about to get swept in both diamond sports by ULM. Let that sink in…
