Thread: College Softball Now Days

  1. UL Softball College Softball Now Days

If you have hopes of playing college softball — understand this:

It’s not the same game it was a few decades ago.

Offensively, the game has shifted from pitcher-dominant, small ball to power-driven, lineup-deep offenses.

The modern game is built around damage — not just contact.

    Old college softball:
Speed. Slap. Bunt pressure. Ace pitchers controlling games.

    Modern college softball:
Deeper lineups. More power. More extra-base hits. More teams that can do serious damage from the box.

The baseline level of offense is higher
And the best teams combine on-base + power

You can still win without power…
…but your margin for error is smaller.

And at the highest levels of college softball —
teams that can create damage separate themselves.

If you’re a high school player and you’re not training to hit the ball hard in the air — consistent line drives — you’re putting yourself behind.

Maybe building a team the original way would be the moneyball way to do it?
Give it a shot, no NIL bidding wars?

This is not entirely correct and fortunately anyone with the dream of playing college softball probably does not view this post anyway.

There are many levels of college softball. This is applicable to the schools chasing D1 national championships. There are not many of those out there.

But if you want to play college softball, there are still plenty of programs (good ones) who want slappers, speed and small ball. And they have $$ and opportunities.

I guess you didn't read the part where it said At the highest levels of college softball, teams that can create damage separate themselves. That is in reference to D1 and the Cajuns.

Nope I read it fine. Just another shot at the style Habetz plays and your disagreement with it. Sunrise sunset.

The most successful small ball team in the country is SLU. Know why they are successful?

I'll give you a hint. They have a team ERA of 1.84, 5th in the country.

Small ball simply does not work unless your pitching is elite for whatever level you play.

If you don't have a team ERA under about 2.25, you better leave small ball in the closet gathering dust.

    At the D1 level, I 100% agree.

Do teams want to be good, are, do they want to be great?
