I like the bunts used when the defense gave it to us. The runners advanced and our speed gave us a runner on first. Sunday it was used very effectively. The sacrifice bunt was not as effective Sunday. Especially after our first at bat doubles. Stranded runners at third twice.
Yep! But I don’t believe the bunt has been necessarily the issue rather the lack of execution. Sure there may have been some bunt calls this year that may have not been necessary in moments or situations but there is no “right or wrong” in those calls. That has been my stance on the issue and reasons for my comments. Not always my personal opinion but trying to demonstrate there are other strategies and tactics outside of an Individual’s personal preference. It surely has not been an issue to the level of the doomsday some here have proclaimed. Again, not saying anyone is wrong for their opinions just giving my own.
I will also close with this. I watch ALOT of collegiate softball (A LOT) and not just alot of UL softball and their opponent that game. I watch all levels and many teams. It was not until this topic became so important here that now every time I see a bunt or bunt attempt it’s like a highlighter jumping out at me (I’ve just NEVER paid attention enough to it cause it’s part of the game) but I have been actually shocked at the amount of bunting called on at all levels in many of the same situations that are being complained about here.
This may be a nothing burger, but I will ask anyway.
Why is it you only time read or hear positive things about the bunt is when it is accompanied with the phrase "perfectly executed."
Why is it for highly productive hits, you never hear the phrase "perfectly executed."
Seems to be related to 'expectations' with a dash of 'surprise' mixed in.
Personally, I would only bunt when the opponent is playing deep and back from the bases.
ps I know it has its place.
“Perfectly executed” is used in bunting and not in hitting because the bunt is an unnatural or extraordinary use of the batting process
My wife was at the game. She said it was possibly the most disrespectful and uncomfortable thing she has witnessed at a collegiate softball game.
Unfortunately I couldn’t make it. I had to catch sac-a-lait in Toledo Bend over the weekend. LOL
However, I did watch all 3 on my phone 😁
