Mid Season SB Report Card

These are my views. I will list grades on how I think the team has performed in the 2026 season from Game 1 until today. I will not give a reason unless someone wants an explanation. Please don't come with the you are being negative stuff. If you want to give your grade do so, if you don't want that is fine also.

Base Running: C-
Coaching: D-
Defense: C-
Hitting: C-
Pitching: D-

Hard to disagree with this. I do think our hitting is a B when allowed to swing the bat and that our hitting coach has done a much better job than the rest of the staff.

They haven't for the most part been allowed to swing away so factor that into your grade and keep in mind when asked to bunt how efficient is the team? The players can't control when they are asked to bunt. Now give your grade when factoring all that in.

I don’t notice base running to be a negative but agree with the other grades. I would add when there are runners on and a fly ball to the outfield, we never throw to the correct bag, ever. That is lack of communication but I don’t hear anyone call out the correct bag from the dugout either.

That would fall under defense.

Agreed, the small ball is so infuriating that it is becoming comical. As I believe you mentioned in an earlier post, our hitting coach should be our third base coach running the offense and put Habetz in the dugout staying out of it. She is hampering our offense and our hitters confidence.

True. But everybody in the Sunbelt has that problem . Our only expectations should be to win the Conference which we are not doing . That goes for all sports.

I can see where you are coming from here. IMO, watching many other teams play, it seems like you have to grade base-running and defense on a curve because those issues are not just with UL.

Unfortunately this is a by-product of the current travel ball and development era. Too much focus on games, swings and “me,” and not enough on teaching IQ and practice.
