What matters is the status of the program and creating something that people want to buy into. For example, VCU has created a great basketball program despite being a nothing school. They may not be championship caliber but they are consistently competing and guys want to play there. Saying "we have no hope because we aren't in a P4 conference" is just a sad excuse. But its easier for schools like UL to blame the conference instead of blaming the program itself.
There will come a day where the Darth Vader greed of the A4s will totally cut the “all you others” out their scheduling. There is not another mountain of gold to be found. They’ll want every penny kept in their inbred world.

These made for TV early OOC football games and “conference challenges” in basketball are proof it’s already started.

That’s why the conferences are bigger. In every league, someone has to finish last. That will define the new cupcake selection.

Bowls are dying with the big boys with NIL. During bowl season now, coaches are coming and going, players doing the same, or not even playing to protect their next check. 5 years from now, ESPN will figure out a cheaper substitute for holiday programming.

I think they still want everyone in (in to postseason) no matter how many they have as members. They need some non conf wins for the math. Didnt SEC softball have 13 out of 13 one year recently, and at least 10 hosts?

Speaking of espn, why dont they have to pay players to use the highlights containing their NIL
