The Chemin Metarie intersection of the Ambassador Caffery extension is causing quite the buzz. Travelers along the road are calling it dangerous and say something needs to be done.
Al Gautreaux says it's an accident waiting to happen. He, like everyone else who travels the road, says the extension makes traveling in and out of Lafayette almost hassle free.
The concern however, is there are no speed limit signs posted anywhere on the extension. Drivers say a light needs to be put at the Chemin Metarie intersection. "There's no speed signs so I guess we can go whatever speed we want until we see signs posted," said Gautreaux. Chemin Metarie driver Jacob Ballew agrees, "There needs to be a light right here. There's already been one wreck. I think somebody got hurt pretty bad," he said.
The department of transportation's Bill Fontenot says Traffic engineers will put up speed limit signs in a couple weeks based on the average flow of traffic. As far as a light being put up, D.O.T.D says according to their observations, it's not needed at this time. Fontenot says that is an issue they will monitor throughout the year.
