You would normally go halfway on a fly ball to the OF with less than 2 out. If he had been halfway, he easily makes it to third on that play.

LaSalle was anticipating the ball being caught and was tagging so that he could advance (as was the lead runner). I wouldn’t have done it on that play, but I’m not sure it was bad base running by LaSalle because the instruction might have come from the first base coach.
