Impressive win. More so than Wednesday night to me since it came on the road against a quality opponent.

  4. UL Baseball Hernandez's Homer The Difference In 6-5 Win at Dallas Baptist

Louisiana used a late home run from Rigoberto Hernandez and strong relief pitching from Garret Carter to edge Dallas Baptist, 6-5, in the opening game of a three-game series Friday night at Horner Ballpark.

Hernandez snapped a 5-5 tie in the ninth inning when he drove a two-out pitch over the right-field wall for his third home run of the season, lifting Louisiana (11-3) to its 11th win in its last 12 games.

Carter (1-0) earned his first Division I win in relief, allowing just two hits over the final 3.1 innings while working around three walks to keep the Patriots off the board down the stretch.

Louisiana finished with 11 hits in the contest. Hernandez went 2-for-5 for the Ragin' Cajuns, while Blaze Rodriguez collected three hits and Lee Amedee added two hits and an RBI.

The Cajuns grabbed the early lead in the third inning when Kasen Bellard launched a solo home run to center field off DBU starter Russ Smith. Louisiana added two runs in the fourth to take a 3-0 lead when Colt Brown lined a two-run single to center that scored Drew Markle and Amedee.

Dallas Baptist (8-6) answered with a two-run homer from Dylan Schlaegel in the fourth.

Donovan LaSalle extended Louisiana's lead to 4-2 in the fifth with a solo homer to left-center, before the Patriots responded again in the bottom half of the frame with a solo shot by Ryan Martin that cut the deficit to 4-3.

The Patriots would score twice in the sixth to take their first lead of the game, beginning when Adam Berghult homered off UL starter Andrew Herrmann to knot the game at 5-5 before Martin would later draw a bases-loaded walk to give Dallas Baptist a 5-4 advantage.

The Cajuns evened the game in the seventh when Griffin Hebert drew a walk, moved to second on a walk to Markle and scored under the tag as Amedee delivered an RBI single to right field.

Herrmann struck out nine in 5.0 innings, allowing five runs on seven hits, before being lifted for Tyler Papenbrock.

JT Long (1-2) – the fourth pitcher used by DBU – took the loss after surrendering Hernandez's go-ahead homer in the ninth.

Louisiana and Dallas Baptist will continue the weekend series on Saturday in a 3:05 p.m. contest. JR Tollett (2-0, 2-0, 5.82 ERA) will get the start for the Ragin' Cajuns with DBU countering with right-hander Jared Schaeffer (2-0, 4.05 ERA).

Louisiana has had many impressive wins this season . . . let’s not diminish any of them as all that does is diminish how impressive overall this team has been in all facets of the game . . . while it looks like Tores may have lost his position to a freshman who is on fire, it was wonderful to see him come in the 9th inning and put up an impressive showing behind the plate . . . what is also very impressive about this team is that new faces seems to put up an impressive performance each game in one facet of the game or another . . . pitching, fielding and hitting . . . it’s now getting to the point where this appears to be real . . .

Great teams find different ways to win.
Just have one more run than the opponent when it is over. I don't care how!
Man us Cajun Fans needed all these wins.
    Lets keep the train rolling!

Beating the No. 2 ranked team in country and the defending national champ on your home field before the third highest crowd in attendance is about the most impressive win one can have . . . and if we keep winning but do not clinch the automatic bid, this win will probably be one of the best wins looked at by the committee in awarding post season bids to the tourney . . .
