Lee Amedee and Colt Brown recorded a pair of hits apiece, and Louisiana scored three runs in the first inning to set the tone early and defeat No. 2-ranked LSU, 7-2, on Wednesday before an announced crowd of 5,736 – the third largest in school history – at M.L. "Tigue" Moore Field at Russo Park.
Louisiana (10-3), which capped a nine-game homestand, won for the 10th time in its last 11 games. LSU (11-3) dropped its second straight game and third in its last six and had its two-game win streak against the Cajuns snapped.
Drew Markle drew a one-out walk in the bottom of the first off LSU starter Gavin Guidry (0-1) before scoring on Amedee's RBI double down the left-field line for an early 1-0 lead. A throwing error later in the inning – one of three recorded by the Tigers – allowed Amedee to score before Steven Spalitta added a sacrifice fly that pushed the advantage to 3-0.
