JMU 5 PM tomorrow.
This team plays so much better when they aren't jacking up 3's. I will give it to coach Q, we had no offensive identity earlier in the season with guys trying to go just one v one but coach implemented a movement offense and got the ball and players moving. It doesn't always produce great shots but we at least got more players contributing. Evans and Jones have to figure out a way not to be foul magnets but I like the hustle and grit of this team.
Always nice to beat them in basketball!
Since 3 wins in march led to auto extension, would six more in march lead to a super secret DOUBLE extension
His issues on offense are fairly common in these days and times because we've neutered the inside game in college basketball. Bigs are often taught now to just kick the ball out rather than work inside. This creates delays in decision making when they do get the ball. He just needs to keep working because he has some promise but he's so raw. Where he really needs to improve is defensively and decision making. He just bails so many players out with dumb fouls.
Good analysis on Evans. He is just a little slow with his decision making on both ends. Basketball is a game of instinct and you need to make decisions in nano seconds. That is something that the football/baseball guys don't really appreciate about basketball. You don't have a play call like football or pitch call like baseball when on the court. You have to react to chaos quite quickly to help your team win. Jeremiah does wait too long to attack the basket at times and there are times when he should pass it out. Those are generally when he does not recognize the double team is on him or coming. Probably being too critical of him as he did have 6 points yesterday and helped when Jones was on bench with foul trouble.
Key yesterday was Finister being available. He did not have a great game but his 13 points were key. Olvera does not get a career high without Finister. Having another offensive threat allowed Jax clearer lanes to drive to the basket and open looks on catch and shoot situations. Dorian is also a steady defensive player. Zephyr makes another good point stating that taking less threes is often a recipe to make more threes as the defense has to guard a wider area when there are threats from more parts of the court.
Will be interesting to see how they play today. I don't think fatigue will be much of a factor. If they are successful, it will almost certainly be tomorrow.
So is it now 7 games in March or 6?
