Thread: Lafayette Needs a PWHL team!

Got to hand it to Monroe. That’s where I live for work, and for years the Monroe Civic Center basically just had the annual circus and not much else. But now they got the Monroe Moccasins, a Single‑A minor league hockey team. I went to a game that drew about 4,000 people with real, legit support. And now they are getting an arena football team called the Greenheads.

This is exactly the kind of thing UL needs to be doing and thinking outside the box.

I know we had the Roughnecks at one time, but start thinking smaller minor leagues where each venue can host to make profit, like using the soccer stadium for minor league Soccer

Do you honestly think a league that allows this will continue to grow by expanding into Lafayette?

Thats up there not down here. Probably the politics are a little different

I'm not a fan of dividing fan interests.

I don't even like Louisiana Basketball, baseball and softball going head to head.

Something like that is what the league will be known for across the country. A sign up north and the fans down south will quit the league.

UL does not need to do anything with this.

The university is already struggling to get revenue for the programs that are active.

Adding any other entertainment options for the Lafayette area residents to spend money on does nothing but SHRINK the available dollars UL has access to at the moment - which is minimal!

Those cities have a century of hockey history behind them, but expansion leagues don’t look for another Original Six they look for new, sustainable markets with culture, facilities, and room to grow. Lafayette fits that profile. We have a strong sports community, an arena already in place, and a region that isn’t saturated with pro hockey teams. The PWHL is trying to expand its footprint, not duplicate the biggest markets, and that’s exactly why Lafayette deserves to be in the conversation.
    Hockey ran it's course here.
Also.....I have zero interest in watching women's hockey. Gonna be a no for me, dog.

Called College Hockey South (CHS) and could do womans and mens.

Dude, its not happening. Nobody is gonna pay to watch that in its first year, much less it being sustainable. Of all the things you could bring to this market, women's hockey is at the very bottom of the list.

Because there is absolutely nothing else to do in Monroe, LA.

Lafayette has no shortage of live music events, festivals, and any number of other distractions across the parish on every weekend, not to mention the considerably more popular college team only one hour away.

  10. What a Downer Re: Lafayette Needs a PWHL team!

The only thing UL should schedule against and alongside, are food festivals that they initially sponsor.
