I couldn't read the article but it appears UL is going to be selling long term assets to fill a short term budget hole. I can't help but think once this road is travelled they'll be no turning back and the university will be a shell of its former self going forward.

One property is the Cade Farm the other is the former LOU ANA property that was donated to UL at the end of Moss St. I'm not sure of the other properties.

Let's face it UL hasn't been very shrewd in it's land dealings. UL growth has been stagnant since the turn of the century. This latest move will accelerate the regression I'm afraid.

    One time money. Losing proposition.

That 600 acres in Cade would be a dream to buy. After seeing what property is going for these days, I'm glad we pulled the trigger on our property a few years ago. We got a STEAL!

This is mismanagement. If we can sell naming rights to the athletic properties, why can't we sell naming rights to these properties?

Selling property does not correct the root cause! Does anyone really know what it is?

Not fully recruiting undergrads to increase enrollment.

Higher education went thru a 30 or 40 year period where the sales pitch was "ANY degree will land you a great job!". Then they saturated the market with bachelor's degrees, to the point where only a handful would get that great job. Now that handful of jobs is getting outsourced to foreign countries or data centers in Monroe.

Youre better off learning to fix air conditioners than you are going five figures into debt to get a degree that likely wont get you far (at least in Louisiana).

On top of that, the school and the city together completely stamped out the reputation that UL had for being a party school.. So whats the sales pitch to high school students? Especially those from Acadiana who have already experienced Nite Town and Shanes Loaded Mac Bar...

Plenty of failures lead to this stupid one time money fix. It’s the Louisiana game plan. Hurricane season coming, sure some legislators silently hope it’s just bad enough to get that federal “fix” is a great example.

    AFA UL and root problem…

Staying comfortable in the confines of Lafayette, Louisiana.

Stagnant enrollment growth, singular goal of R1 which means nothing to the average student, failure to capitalize on athletic success, bubba system still in play.

When you are on the elevator at Russo and some corndog is spouting off about his Lower Southern University baseball team on his way to the 4th level, loyalty is loss for the home team.

Hard to be UL with the spine of USL.

Throw in State taking over 2 medical centers and their satellite in Eunice drawing nursing students, USL is stuck with dead land at the former OLOL site holding their junk and saying “duh, what happened?”
