Coach Marlin fought the move to Saturday afternoons his last couple of years here. Maybe there is no choice anymore. I don't know the details there. I have heard the men agreed to go first if we have a men and women's doubleheader. At a minimum, I hope we change that policy. With a 3 PM game, fans can have an early dinner out on the way home. We had Friday night games vs SLU and Jackson State in November. Those were the only two weekend night home games we have had all season. Those conflicted with HS football. Tulane was on a Tuesday night in November. It was the first game Keller missed after playing well the first 2 games. I knew that night it would be awhile before we would be ready to truly compete.
No revenue generating athletic department in its right mind would agree to pit their own sports against each other.
When they have no choice they need to make a public announcement each and every time.
This is out of our control and we are hardly the only ones being affected. The big schools play their fair share at noon and 2 pm on Saturday's as well. I mean, you had UNC-Syracuse at noon, Houston-Arizona at 2:30 and Michigan-Duke at 5:30 this past weekend. TV is dictating this and that goes for streaming only games as well.
Personally, I'm not going to lie that I like the earlier game times myself. Get up, go to game and then go eat at Judice Inn? I could think of worse ways to spend my saturday.
I think you are overstating this a bit. I mean, softball and baseball play concurrently all the time. That was the case this past Saturday. I mean, if the basketball team was to play at 7, are you telling me that someone would go to the baseball game, spend 4 hours out there in the sun probably drinking a few and then go to the basketball game? We've seen overlap over the years even when the basketball team was playing in the evening and the diamond sports playing before. We had about 2,400 people at the basketball game this Saturday and that's about what we've been seeing over the year to be honest.
I can relate to those people who have kids soccer, baseball games etc. as I was once there but now that my kids are in college I actually enjoy the earlier times and the beer tastes just as good at noon as it does at 7 pm IMO
You are not. We have NOT seen real changes in basketball attendance due to baseball and vice versa. These sports have always overlapped and you will often see baseball and/or softball games later in the afternoon on Saturdays that still conflict with basketball. I think its a bigger issue for those younger families that have kids in sports as that is definitely a conflict for the earlier game times.
