METAIRIE, La. (AP) - A motorist jumped from the causeway bridge
that connects the north and south shores of Lake Pontchartrain to
rescue another man who had jumped from the bridge just moments
before.
Authorities said the first man who jumped Monday was a passenger
in a car driven by his wife. Authorities said the couple apparently
had been arguing and as the car passed the bridge's halfway point,
the man opened the door, got out and jumped into the lake.
A car traveling behind the couple stopped and the passenger,
58-year-old John Crosby, jumped into the lake to rescue the first
man. Authorities said Crosby helped keep the man afloat until
Causeway Police and others arrived on the scene.
Neither man was injured, but the first jumper was taken to a
hospital for observation.
