UL Softball Softball Games of Interest Week Two

There is a very full slate of games this week. Virtually every team on our schedule has multiple games; really too many to include in a post.

Obviously, we want all of the teams we have on our schedule to win if they are not playing us. Also, until conference starts, we want App St, GaSo and GaSt to win every game, unless they are playing someone else we play.

Of particular interest this week are these 18 games involving SBC teams vs ACC, B10, B12 and SEC Schools.

    Ole Miss @ Louisiana x 2 [Naturally]
    USM @ Ms St
    Clemson @ Tx St
    BYU @ Tx St
    Arkansas @ Tx St
    JMU vs Tennessee [Clearwater, FLA]
JMU vs Tx Tech [Clearwater, FL]
    JMU vs aTm [Clearwater, FL]
    CCU @ UNC
    CCU @ Arizona x 2
    Marshall @ Florida x 2
Marshall vs Ga Tech [Gainesville, FL]
    Ga So @ Alabama
Ga So vs Purdue x 2 [Tuscaloosa, AL]

The conference teams need to win enough of these games [not just this week, but whenever they are played] to bolster their chances for an at-large bid. UL plays 13 games vs the Power Conferences. We need to find a way to win 4 or more of them.

While our games with Ole Miss are important, we absolutely must sweep Howard [x 2] and Prairie View this week.

Split the 2 games with Ole Miss, sweep the others, and it’s a successful weekend.

I would be happy with that; but a weekend sweep would be much better, considering that we have 5 Power Conference games week after next.

Interesting take…an undefeated weekend would be better. C’mon people.

It’s a marathon, not a sprint. I’m excited for the program that an SEC team is coming to town. Hopefully they can make some strides.

So.... it wouldn't be better? We have had SEC, ACC, Big 10, PAC [When it was a thing] and Big 12 programs coming to town for the last 30 years or so. I agree that is nice, but it is nothing to get overly excited about.

Of course it is a marathon rather than a sprint, but you still have to be at least moderately good in the first 5 miles if you want to win in 26+ miles.

Of course it would be better..that was my point. Someone made a reasonable post saying splitting with Ole Miss and sweeping A&M-CC and Prairie View would be a nice weekend, and the reply was undefeated would be better. Well of course it would!

As far as not getting excited about an SEC school coming, it’s not the 90’s anymore.

SEC/P4 schools do not have to come here. And if UL does not find a way to consistently be a top 20 program, they won’t.

I’m looking forward to seeing how this offense stacks up against major-D1 pitching.

Coastal and Marshall would be two really good wins for the Sun Belt.
