BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - Bills aimed at getting more information
about the types and numbers of jobs created by the state's economic
development dollars are heading to the full House for debate.
The House Commerce Committee quickly approved a package of
proposals that requires more detailed reporting about the projects
that get dollars from the state's Mega-Project Development Fund and
the Rapid Response Fund.
Both grant funds are overseen by the Department of Economic
Development. Economic Development Secretary Stephen Moret supported
the legislation by Shreveport Rep. Wayne Waddell.
Waddell shelved a bill that would have required details of
"mega-fund" projects to be disclosed before the deals are final.
Moret said that measure could jeopardize efforts to attract
projects.
