I don’t think we have to own a professional team ourselves, but I’ll be honest there are real openings in women’s pro sports right now. You’ve got the PWHL growing fast, the WPF ( Pro Womans Fast Pitch) sitting at four teams and actively trying to add a fifth, the NWSL (Pro Womans Soccer League) continuing to rise, and the WNBA yeah, I doubt we’d ever land that one.

But that’s exactly why I keep coming back to this idea. I really believe Lafayette and UL should be pushing hard to get into women’s professional sports. It could be a legit game changer for the city and the university. We already have the facilities, the sports culture, the fan base, and the regional pull. We’re built for something like this especially in leagues that actually want mid‑market stability and community engagement.

If we positioned ourselves the right way, Lafayette could become a real hub for women’s pro athletics.
Multiple pro softball leagues have tried & failed. The newest one is more of a barnstorming league with no home stadiums. Don't know much about hockey. WNBA is subsidized by NBA, never has and never will make profit. In fact, WNBA is about to be shut down. The players are about to strike & all leave to do their own thing.

Ah, yes... the boondoggle where UL gave the parking lot at Cajun Field to the car dealers association rent free... and they charged dealers who displayed cars there thousands of dollars for the privilege. Same for the boat show.

We are talking about professional not minor leagues or anything like that, its a way for woman to get into a sport.

I really think there is a niche market out there, it be different then Arena Football or Minor League Hockey

Brother, go look at the financials of the WNBA without the NBA subsidizing them.

You talking about big markets, we are a mid-market, just like the ice gators, which they probably never thought they sell out, but with Lafayette its different it is a hit or miss, try it see what happens they either will succeed or it will fail, but you wont know till they try,

You either can try to do something or you can do nothing at all.

If it was me, i would try for sure to get Pro Fast Pitch Softball, Pro Womans Hockey, and if possible Pro Womans Soccer, that is another use for Lamson Park, CajunDome, and OLOL stadium

If the top Womens sports league in our country struggles without NBa assitance, imagine what a professional womens league in lafayette would do.

No to competing with an existing product.

Not unlike how Lady Cajuns should be stand alone product within the Ragin' Cajuns umbrella.

    Don't water down the product.

Any pro product should be its own endeavor that utilizes existing infrastructure.

    Pro Beach Volleyball.

I'll go ahead & be the one to say what most are thinking. Women's Pro Sports do not work in this country. Same as many of the new leagues in men's sports. The big leagues have the monopoly on everything. Without the big leagues subsidizing smaller leagues, they can't exist with the USA sports model in existence.

Women's Tennis is the exception but it is celebrity driven and ages out, constantly needing a reboot.
