I am gonna ask does UL make any money off of concessions, or does UL get a percentage of gross sales from events?
Well if we are giving up to Sodexo lets think outside the box! I think this is very doable that could knock out UL financial problems. So lets get to it.
The first thing I’d do is build a true Sports Tourism Department whose only job is to keep our facilities booked year‑round. I’d have a small team focused on securing youth tournaments, state championships, cheer and dance events, and UL‑branded camps so that every open weekend becomes an economic driver. They should work directly with Lafayette Travel, hotel groups, and event operators to lock in long‑term partnerships, manage facility rentals, and create youth leagues that bring families onto campus every week. That steady flow of visitors, and UL has even more assets to leverage then the BSC.
At the same time, I’d aggressively monetize the indoor side of campus. The Cajundome, Bourgeois Hall, the Student Union, and our large academic auditoriums give UL something Broussard doesn’t: the ability to host conferences, robotics meets, esports tournaments, corporate trainings, and indoor sports events no matter the weather. By treating the campus like a sports‑and‑convention center, You turn UL into a constant events hub that could athletics with business tourism. That combination sports tourism on the weekends and conferences or indoor events during the week.
Which it already does, but needs to have its own department seeking this out with the city of Lafayette
When we built the Indoor Football facility, I asked the architect why we did not design it to double as an indoor track facility. He said it would have cost roughly $1MM more.
So, rather than spending an extra $1MM to create a facility that would have been the best indoor track facility between Baton Rouge and Houston, we USL'ed it.
That extra $1MM would have enabled us to host not only at least 2 collegiate indoor meets and possibly the SBC Indoor Championships, but also a HS indoor meet every week from December through February.
The University has a long and proud?? history of overlooking opportunities to generate revenue.
I be honest, Monroe got a minor league hockey team, and is now getting arena football, even though Lafayette have had it in the past, i really think they need to try again to bring in revenue.
Big off season event coming up for "ULL" at that new stadium,
