  1. Support How Broussard Sports Complex scored $21 million in 2025 revenue

The Broussard Sports Complex at St. Julien Park generated approximately $21 million in 2025, according to city officials, improving substantially on figures from the previous year.

In 2024, the complex generated $12 million according to the city, which reflects a yearly increase of $9 million, or an increase of 75%. The numbers are based, in part, on traffic estimates provided by the Lafayette Economic Development Authority along with sales data from local businesses.

    Now do Louisiana Athletics.

Not just the advertising value it brings to the University of Louisiana.

Include the impact on city revenue and local business.

There is no athletic deficit, just ancillary benificiaries

In December, during the winter season, they set up an entire ice‑skating rink with food trucks, a stage, alcohol sales, hot chocolate stands the whole deal. Parents could watch their kids skate while enjoying themselves, and adults without kids could still hang out, eat, drink, and be part of the atmosphere.

Now imagine applying that same model to major tournaments and events throughout the year. That’s exactly the kind of thing we always talk about on here creating an environment where people want to stay, spend money, and come back.

And this is where the difference between the Broussard Athletic Complex and UL becomes crystal clear.

The Broussard complex probably doesn’t rely on massive donors because what would they even be donating to? Instead, their revenue likely comes from thousands of hardworking families who show up once or twice a year because their kid has a baseball, volleyball, pickleball tournament.

    And here’s the key:
They give those families an experience.

They’re not charging $1,000 for a tailgate spot. They’re not gatekeeping fun. They’re not acting like only the wealthy deserve amenities. They’re doing the opposite they’re creating a place where “regular people” can enjoy themselves while their kids compete.

Adults can grab a drink, listen to music, eat good food, socialize, and actually have a good time instead of sitting in a folding chair for eight hours waiting for the next game.

This is fan engagement at its most basic and most effective level:

    • Make the environment fun.
    • Make it comfortable.
    • Make it worth staying.
    • Make it worth spending money.
    • Make it worth coming back.

UL could absolutely do this. They have the space, the fan base, the weather, the culture, and the events. What they lack is the mindset.

Broussard is winning because they understand something simple:
If you treat people like guests instead of obstacles they will reward you with loyalty and revenue.

I'm wondering what the total value of direct receipts, fence and other sponsorship advertising is for the Broussard complex?

The complex in Broussard lost a ton of money when they first started. Now they have the right people in place to build. However, it's not an apple to apples comparison with UL's complex.
Youth baseball brings a ton of people to the complex. That is a money pit most parent waste thousands on because they think Little Billy will make it to the MLB when he can't even tie his shoes. BSC doesn't run the tournaments, collect entry, or do anything other than lease the park to the tournament organization. The Tigue hosts upper levels but those don't bring crowds.
I'm not sure BSC had the winter thing this year like in 2024 (we went that year).

Because families don't usually aren't the demographic for premium seating.

Cant wait to see bouncy houses at OLOL stadium. We should also install a playground while we are at it.

Exactly and that’s the problem. When I’m off work and spending my money, it’s for my family. I’m always going to put them first, and that’s true for most people. The vast majority easily 90% have limited time and limited resources, so they’re going to choose what benefits their family. That’s the biggest difference, and it’s why fan engagement matters so much.
