3 in a row. We did not look that pretty, as we went on extended cold periods, but the guys got it done. Congrats! 3 in a row! Good thing is 4 of next 5 are at home! We are one game back of that coveted 4th seed. Only way we have a shot at the SBC tourney championship is get that 4th seed.
Be realistic. The only remaining game the Cajuns are favored to win is Saturday. And the last two regular season games are on the road, Troy and Arkansas State.
Hope springs eternal.
Game threads have some of the best "we suck" to "we're amazing" comments from the same posters. Few understand the time it takes to build a program & install new offensive/defensive philosophies. Many want everything to work right away when in reality, it takes time. When the season started slow, I told people to relax because the team will come around and now they have!
In this league, being favored means nothing. No team is standing out and every single contest could go either way. Troy looked great at the Dome when they made 18 threes at a 65 percent clip. In a recent loss, they shot 4 for 27 from three. Both games were anomalies and regression to the mean was inevitable for the Trojans. Key is for the Cajuns to keep doing the things that have caused improvement. They do that and they could finish with a winning record in the league.
Mike, there were times when we drove the lane and had seemingly a layup to convert and we kicked the ball out for a 3. It worked sometimes but we gave up a prime scoring opportunity and/or the ability to draw a foul in the process. That's risky and when you have one of the worst 3 point shooting teams in the SBC doing this, that's playing into the defense's hands. It worked for us but that's something we've been trying to move away from. Besides the game winner was the same play before that kicking out to Olvera who was struggling from the field for all of conference play at 0 for 5 for the night. Like I said, it worked out but had we lost, the reasons would have been obvious.
Having said what I've said, I give credit to coach AND the players for stepping up when they easily could have packed it in. The team has continued to play hard and they've improved and kudos to them but the point remains, we have to be more versatile on offense if we want to do anything.
