UL will not be competitive within the SBC much less nationally without student fees and without development of the land around the athletic complex. Glad to see our AD address possible development of that as well as more activities around Cajun Field rather than just the 5-6 home games a year.
Oklahoma just reported a $44M deficit.....Rutgers hit record high deficit of $80M. Not just UL feeling the financial pains of this new landscape.
Those schools have assets and doners to help cover the shortfall....and UL doesn't...unfair comparisons
It comes down to what is labeled "university support" and what isnt. There is not a level playing field. I would prefer less university support across the board, but many athletics dept with moderate to high university support is technically also running a deficit, albeit hidden from weak media. See also those who got state or university funded stadiums that athletics didnt pay back
Student fees not happening. NIL killed that. That is until
Louisiana State needs student fees.
Development around Cajun Field? The majority of the disposable income people live far from CF. That ship sailed long ago.
Look at Moncus Park. No government money was a selling point. And in no time, here comes multiple government grants to slap down the narrative.
The proposal that’s been floated around by LVCC is just classic Lafayette, much like downtown. Something else for government to prop up.
If anything would be built around CF, needs to provide a serious revenue stream. Restaurants and clubs won’t cut it.
Wouldn’t it have been awesome if the dicks/top golf/dave and busters development was on the corner of Cajundome blvd and Congress?? Surely nobody tried to do that, right??
