Louisiana's Alaysha Veal became the program's first female track and field athlete to clear 6 feet in the women's high jump, while Henry Lyon broke a 43-year-old school record in the men's 3,000 meters as the Ragin' Cajuns set three indoor school records Saturday at the Dr. Rick McGuire Invitational at the Hearnes Center.
Isabelle Russell added another record for Louisiana in the women's 3,000 meters as the Ragin' Cajuns set four school records over the two-day meet, which opened Friday with a record-setting performance by the women's distance medley relay team.
Hosted by SEC member Missouri, the meet saw Louisiana post 14 top-five performances in program history.
Veal became the 16th Division I athlete this season to clear 6 feet in the high jump, accomplishing the feat on her second attempt. The mark broke her own school record of 5 feet, 9¾ inches set last season.
Lyon led Louisiana to a record-breaking 1-2-3 finish in the men's 3,000 meters. His time of 8:01.28 eclipsed the previous school record of 8:02.08 set by Ian Wilkinson in 1983. Matthew Maynard (8:16.68) and Jackson Jarrett (8:20.26) recorded the third- and fourth-fastest times in school history in the event.
