Weather was not an issue for those of us who turned out for Softball fan day. Bright sunshine and no wind helped cut the chill of high 40's temperatures.

I thought Delbrey looked outstanding, and Hoover and Tipton were also good in the circle.

On the offensive side, we looked very different than last season. Among our new and/or younger players, I was impressed with Lily Knox and Haley Hart; they were really stinging the ball. Kennedy Stutes and Madyson Manning also had good outings. Mia Norwood was raining bombs in BP as well. Overall, the hitting looked much, much better than last season.

I am always rather optimistic about UL softball, but I honestly believe we will be much improved in run production over last season, and that we will be somewhat better in the circle. Defensively we will be fine.

After the next couple of weeks, we should have a better handle on where we are, but I will say now that I believe that both D1 Softball and the SBC Coaches undervalued the Cajuns in their preseason predictions.

I was not able to make the fan day. Thanks for this report. A couple of notations from me about the 2026 season in general. 1. Knox needs to be in the line-up. The Cajuns need the pop in her bat. Her problem has been being able to stay healthy to be a contributor. 2. I was impressed with Hart in fall ball. She is a baller. If her bat is working, she needs to be in the line-up either in an outfield position or at the expense of Liscano if her bat remains weak. 3. From what I saw in fall ball and from what I saw from her at LSU, I have not been impressed with Manning. I am interested in what you consider a "good outing" since I have never seen her have one. 4. No one has mentioned anything about Marceaux. I am concerned that her playing catcher full time will cause her bat to suffer. Catcher is the toughest position to play physically. 5. Norwood hitting bombs from batting practice is meaningless. Taylor Roman regularly cranked 300 footers in bp but was a dud (for the most part) in games.

Hart will play. She will likely be at 2B this weekend, with Liscano at short, as I do not expect Ceci to play this weekend. Knox and Manning will both be in the lineup as well.
I didn't mention Marceaux, but she did as I expected, and will start at catcher. We are at least two deep in quality players at every position except maybe catcher, where no one is proven, but several have potential. Pitching will be good enough. Delbrey looked really good Sunday, and Hoover and Tipton will be good as well. Our younger pitchers will give us some quality innings as well, assuming they don't red shirt.

Liscano will be fine. I do not expect her to slap this year, and I firmly believe that will make her much more effective offensively. Same goes for Ardoin.

Otto is healthy this year, and looked good both at 3B and at the plate Sunday.

I am very optimistic right now.
