Most of these guys seem like they are recruits of Coach Johnson while at Tech. Just wondering if Coach Marlin is involved yet in recruiting or is he going to rely mostly on Johnson to do all recruiting.

The Daily Advertiser is reporting that Centenary G David Perez has committed to Cajuns. Just told me that he will sign Wednesday.

Showing my ignorance of basketball recruiting, isn't Perez a nice get? I've seen him mentioned around RP for a few weeks.. Can someone elaborate?

This kid can play. He lit us up for 23 last season. I think he will definitely help in providing depth in the backcourt.

    Nice grab!

Perez is a nice pick-up. Strong shooter. Will have a chance to succeed with Cajuns and play baseball, too.

I've been watching Perez play ever since he was 4 years old at N.I.R.D. basketball in New Iberia.....and then at CHS.

There is no doubt that the kid can play and he showed that this past year with the competition he played against.

    BUT.......

He needs to get quicker and play defense if he wants to get good P.T. He is an outstanding yet streaky 3-Point shooter with limited dribble-by skills. He runs and plays flat-footed so I would guess he'll be a spot player or a situational player? Now if Marlin and the new strength and conditioning asst coach can work with him he could be a solid pickup!

Strengths: Smooth Jumper from anywhere on the court, smart player, coaches player and will kill a zone coverage.

Weaknesses: Lacks foot speed, not a division I "guard", needs to develop or enhance dribble / blow by.

Finally spoke with JUCO G Brandon Riley. (His possible commitment was mentioned in a blog with a disclaimer due to no confirmation from him or JUCO coach.)

Here is an update on his situation:

I think David would be more of a situational player. He can really shoot it. Shot almost 40% this past year. I would imagine on our team with more talented players around him, he will get more open looks due to playing with better athletes. I would venture to say that his % would increase.

I would also venture to say that he is a Division I guard seeing that he average double figures as a sophomore in Division I last year.

At the very least, David will supply us with a fundamentally sound SG or possible SF in a small lineup who makes good decisions and would be a nightmare against those who go zone on us along with a Daigle and Bureau. He should provide some really nice depth, good shooting which we've missed the past few years and solid play. I think its a great pickup and look forward to seeing him here.
