Justin McLeod, of D1 Softball, picks the Cajuns to finish 5th this year in the Sunbelt Conference. Fifth behind Texas State, Coastal Carolina, JMU and ULM. He also ranks one Cajun player in the top 25 in the league. Emily Smith comes in at number 9.

oh boy...
Honestly, after last year's performance and the loss of our best returning pitcher, this prediction should not be a surprise. I can't argue too much with the folks he picked ahead of us, either.
We just have too many question marks to pick us much higher than he did. I have said before, and I will now repeat it: If our pitchers produce at the talent level they have shown before last year, if Smith does at least what she did last year, if Vasquez produces at the plate like year before last, if we get what we think we should out of Marceaux, Manning, Knox, Williams, Liscano, Hart, Watts and others, we COULD be a Super Regional team. If we get what we got last year, we might not even be 5th in conference.
Remember we were picked to finish 1st by most news outlets in Football in the West. LOL!
Preseason predictions mean nothing.
If Smith gets any protection in the lineup, I think she can be a player of the year in this league.
Also, basically, you are saying if we get massive production from our projected starting lineup and all of our pitchers pitch at a high level, UL could be a super regional team? Now that’s a prediction..ha ha.
I kid..you’re the eternal optimist and it’s a good thing for this board.
Picked behind ULM.
Welcome UL long time softball fans to the same feeling USL/Blackham MBB fans have been going thru for years. We feel your pain.
