3,972 in FBS averages to.just under 30 per team. Assuming 20%.of this year's players were in final year of eligibility.....that leaves about 1 in 3 returning players choosing portal vs staying with current team in FBS.

What happens to guys who left teams but don’t get picked up? Do they lose their scholarships??

I could be wrong but if I recall, it is a program-by-program coach-by-coach player-by-player decision.

We need to be more open in letting them back on the team, but it needs to be known that they have to earn their spot and respect back. If I was the coach and they asked to be back on the team that is what I would tell them.

The only problem you run into is if the coaches set a precedent of allowing players that enter the portal and don't find a spot somewhere else to come back then what will stop all players from entering the portal just to test the waters knowing they can come back anytime. Like it is no big deal to the team. It is a slippery slope.

We really need analytics to decide which ones we need! 6,000+ we should be able to fill holes on the team, and could go 11-1 or 10-2 record every year no matter who transfers out every year.

We need Mathmaticians, hate to use the MoneyBall approach but essentially that is what we need to do to get ahead!

    Great idea, and I agree.

I really don't see the no NIL fear factor.

Other than a time crunch period of analytical modeling causing a few of sleepless nights, the players are there to get gotten, not forgotten.

At a certain point the fear factor flips to the portal "I might never play again."

Every school that is sucking up great talent is spitting out great talent.

Great teams are there to be made, and not for a lot of money, but it Wil take,a,lot of work in a,short time span or you will always, suffer more portal losses than gains.

Great point. Where are our R1 grad students, get them on the case

The only bad thing about moneyball, is that it becomes an ever moving target. The reason getting on base was wanted by A's was because nobody else valued it, but once the red sox started overpaying for it, it was no longer moneyball, and a new 'stat' needed to be found for less money
