Thread: Transfer portal battles getting way too scary without a bigger suitcase

  1. UL Football Transfer portal battles getting way too scary without a bigger suitcase

Entry to the transfer portal now is closed.

That means no new players can enter the portal, but players who declared before the deadline Friday still can sign at any time.

So, we may not know the exact makeup of the UL football roster for a time to come, but we have a pretty good idea of how the portal treated the Cajuns this time around

I think I said something similar to what Kevin states in the article a few days ago on this forum. With people in our fanbase believing they can get a better return on their dollars on almost anything than athletic payments, it will be difficult to ever replicate the Napier years. That situation will be the same regardless of who is coach. I understand the viewpoint of our fans and agree with it to a large degree. Only hope is if fans throughout the country realize NIL is not a good investment as kids will leave regardless of their donations and cease NIL support. That could happen at some point.

Read today where the LA Dodgers outbid everyone for a big time player adding to their already stacked roster. The comparison was the Dodgers profitability is double the
Atlanta Braves. MLB needs a salary cap or very few teams have a real chance to rise up and eventually win a World Series. In CFP, the comparison was of Texas' NIL spend capabilities are double the Georgia Bulldogs also a very rich program. At the rate things are going not only will 90% of the FBS teams get priced out, the unquenchable need for more NIL program cash will price out loyal CFB fans.

    Lockout is coming.

No amount of money will guarantee a winner take all program.

There is too much talent in the world for any school to dominate consistently.

Good news with the portal this year is we did not get raided. Bad news is we did not raid.

"Still can sign at any time".....how is that possible.
They need some limits on that as well, how about considerstions regarding the academic calendar.
"Any time" can they sign at halftime of game 3

Honestly not sure not getting raided is good news. We were pretty devoid of talent last year.

Was hoping des would use the portal more but all we got were two backup lineman and a linebacker we hope can play for us. Granted I know we don't offer nil money so that makes it hard

We lost 3 players of consequence. Howard, Williams & Perry.

Howard simply because running QBs rarely play all games. Lunch barely made it to end of season as is after starting 2nd half of season.

Williams.....technically our best OL. In the 1st 4 OOC games when we needed our OL to lead this team.....They weren't nearly as good as hoped. Williams was an above average Sun Belt lineman at best. The younger guys at end of year showed more fight and resolve than what we saw in games 1-4.

Perry was by far the better RB lost in portal. Va Tech is a bad and seemingly desperate P4 bottom tier program now.

I like the 3 signed . We need more, lots more from portal. HS is great but they won't be much help in 7 months when season starts. We need more players that can compete.for starting positions on this roster in Fall of THIS year.

The TSAB Experiment with paying all the buyouts to the coaches and now paying all these players coming in will be the tell tale. What they have spent on Lane and the players coming in is unbelievable. If they don't make the playoffs its going to be funny to see this ____ show unfold across the Basin.
