Yep, looks like our NIL strategy or lack thereof hasn't worked. With classes starting Wednesday, it looks like we will be relying on the recent signing class and the players that remained.
My giving to RCAF will be reduced significantly for a couple of reasons. I have retired and won't be throwing my hard earned $$ at NCAA sports given it's current F'd up situation with NIL and transfer policies. I'll be dropping 1/2 my season tickets in football, already dropped baseball and but will give Coach Q another year before dropping basketball. I'll keep my softball tickets to see if CAH turns out to be the coach that can move us to the top of the conference again. I doubt we'll be anywhere close to what we were used to as NIL will taint this sport too, just not on the scale as football.
Also, the utter lack of understanding from MH not grasping that we can all stay home and watch just about every game our teams play. They continue doing things that turn us away. I understand they are trying to gain younger fans, but us old farts have had just about enough, and we were the ones giving the most!
Seeing Slick’s post and 71 had one on another thread that kinda sums up what’s happening.
Older fans aging out (myself included), retiring, discretionary spending getting cut. USL doesn’t care, bled what they could out of us.
Students get policed hard in the stands and tailgating, probably the most heavy handed in the league. Not a source of major money, again no reason for USL to care.
And money is the ONLY thing driving fan retention. How much can you give in a five year window.
Winning is secondary. When fans have been supporting USL/UL for half a century have lost faith, that’s a problem. Throw in “favorite sons/daughters” hires, that might of worked 50+ years ago even hiring local h/s coaches, but it doesn’t work today.
Here’s hoping the 30 something fan base can get the administration to change. The current model of fan retention is dead.
Be the University of Louisiana. Bury at Lafayette next to YG’s plaque. Duck the naysayers.
Forgotten by the academics was the enrollment boost when HUD introduced winning. But success involves work.
Watch Indiana’s enrollment blow up next year. So the new leadership at the University of Louisiana needs to act like the University of Louisiana. Otherwise just keep jogging in place and stay USL in the eyes of many.
The available players are out there and there are so many they are not expensive.
The thing is, coach can not be obstinate about how he acquires the available players or they will end up being car salesmen somewhere.
Past coaches seemed more creative at finding players.
Bustle dipped into Canadien high school ranks and found Jessie Newman.
Australlia for kickers.
Jessie Evans Australia for a center.
The needed players,are out there.
Just gotta find them
The DB from Oklahoma UL was after has committed to LA. Tech....and the beat goes on...
