Troy used a 3-point barrage to take a big halftime lead and used a rebounding advantage to keep their distance as the Trojans never trailed in a 90-70 win over the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns in a Sun Belt Conference game Saturday afternoon in the Cajundome.
Today, what I saw was an absolute masterclass on how to play basketball. Too bad it was at the expense of our team. We got run out of the gym before halftime by two ginger sub six foot tall brothers who could pick and choose where the ball went against our vaunted balls out high energy man defense.
There are so many numbers to choose from to talk about although we spoke about their offensive rebounding (18) which was one less than our TOTAL rebound number but I digress. We also talked about their 3 point shooting which was an embarrassing 59% which they made 17, 11 in the first half.
But none of them are as impressive to me as the 25 assists. When I talk about the gingers, they controlled the ball on offense and slipped one screen and just got the ball moving. It was actually fun to watch. They hit open shooters all day and they already lead the entire SBC in 3 point shooting so it shouldn't surprise anyone. They are well coached and the players have a high basketball IQ. They kind of made it look effortless. And on offense, they have guys hitting the boards, even the gingers, and they somehow seem to get deflections and passes out to open shooters which just killed us.
All of this while we shot our best game of the season from 3 point land hitting 40% and hitting 10 of them. We simply couldn't defend which is coach's calling card and that's quite disturbing.
Well done Troy.
let’s be realistic - Coach Q never really stood a chance here on RP - it’s pretty funny how bad the “Big Fish” got gutted here and the expectations placed upon Coach Q in year 1 following the “Big Fish” with virtually little additional NIL to support him in the transition
