And there is a huge difference between a one time commitment to keep a coach here for another year and believing that such funding would just be available on a recurring into the future basis once that coach leaves - and with hindsight it would not have been enough to keep him anyhow - thank you Levi Lewis and his line . . .

it is truly unbelievable the amount of assumption allocations that have occurred in this thread - the fact of the matter is that no matter how much one whines and complains it can be believed to be pretty certain that in Louisiana’s then financial condition it would have been difficult to lure here the type of coaching candidate the few fans who are the loudest on this board would have been satisfied with - so as his seat is not hot, it’s time to be happy and support the coach we have and try to make, things positive and the best they can be for recruiting going forward . . .

I totally agree, no way. Not that it would be needed.

On the other side of the coin, this job was super attractive at the time, and I think they could have gotten someone with HC experience from two different ranks.

    1) Someone who had won before at D1. Not my fave because they don't know how to win with a small budget.

    2) An up and comer from DII that knows how to win with a small budget. Louisiana could have found that with less outlay than they gave Desormeaux.

    No doubt in my mind.

Nobody complaining here now would have been satisfied with a candidate out of the number 2 ranks - many are already not satisfied with Lanning at Oregon

Tony Annese would have inspired the fan base in 2021.

Brian Kelly got his feet wet in, DII

I used DII as an example but there are also great FCS coaches accomplishing great things with little to no money.

    Geaux Cajuns

I don’t think that Louisiana made the decision that if a chance was going to be taken on an unknown commodity that the chance was going to be taken on DES and if that was the case then why do anything different than they did - rights wrong or indifferent it does at least give a plausible reason

They've gone after unproven assistant coaches from national contenders on more than one occasion.

Baldwin was the last position coach hire.

You don't think a national championship coach from DII is more attractive.

Getting someone who is doing more with less on a level playing field should be priority one in filling every HC opening.

Again, your assumption allocations were obviously not the same as their assumption allocations

and that is also why I prefaced it with right wrong or indifferent

If he hadn't sought out Florida (they didn't come calling)

It took a perfect storm timing wise.

My memory is $2 mil as well with a commitment for another $2 mil the next year.

$4 mil total not $4 mil for one year.

    I could be wrong.

That makes sense but the funder pretty much knew that keeping Napier was going to either be short term or something like HUD would have happened

Imagine being an older gentleman that can’t get his Viagra refilled so the only joy in life is to troll a college sports message board. What a miserable life that must be to live.
