Not to be forgotten Louisiana had a top 50 scoring defense in 2024.
Allowing only 22.4 per game.
On coach of the year Desormeaux probably got votes from offensive and defensive minded coaches.

I want to get behind DES - I like DES - but because Louisiana did not spend the money on a national search when he was made head coach I can’t like him or get behind him any more - what crock of doggy poo poo are the few from this fan base who post here - in fact absolutely hilarious
Question to be asked — Did we have the funds at the time for a “national search”? Turns out, we did not. That played into the decision.
Nobody wants to donate to a Michael Desormeaux led program. Private donors had pledged up to 4 million dollars to keep Napier. That has nothing to do with the university having no funds. If you put the right people in place there are donors willing to pony up money. If you hire from Reinhardt Dr you get what you’ve seen over the past 4 years. Nobody wants the man to fail but at the same time you’re not gonna have people wanting to support meaningless, boring, losing football.
What does opening up the position and making some calls and fielding some inquiries have to do with money? As others have mentioned, we had as much as nearly $4 million pledged to keep Napier in private money. Had we been able to go out and at least look for the next up and coming coach, that might have sat better with people but we didn't.
I don’t believe that same money commitment transferred to Des… or another coach.
