I think every young football player probably has their own unique reasoning beyond money, but if I was a player trending upward and these were my circumstances:

    1. 1-2 years left
    2. Unlikely to make NFL
    3. P4 teams offering 100k+

I'd definitely move to a larger city like Cincinnati. In your 20s, athletic prime, numerous entertainment options, more post-college employment options.

Back to the first year NIL started, in my head I was imagining teams like USC and Miami being unstoppable. I think it's apparent that the top of the SEC has lost its monopoly on top tier talent since everyone can get paid out in the open.

The old era of CFB is over. LSU is going to have to invest a ton of donor money to stay relevant in this new era. Is it sustainable? Probably not. When the big brands of the old era begin to get passed up by the likes of Indiana, Texas Tech, etc. we will start to hear about rule changes.

    Great post

There will probably be no rules or rules changes because most would be unconstitutional.

So, the money will always rule and from time to time some other than the traditional big boys (who already have in place systems like TAF to support the need) will either get lucky enough to find money on occasion (McNeese Basketball) or development benefactors with endless pockets (Texas Tech, Oregan).

    Nobody's pockets are endless.

Yup. Oklahoma State rode the T Boon Pickens money train for years. They still have a money train, but not what it was. Anything they needed, Pickens took care of it.

If Pickens was still alive, Gundy would have been run long ago. Pickens kept people from getting comfortable, his money obviously came with expectations.

Watch what Louisiana State pays for a QB now that Williams is no longer in play. Kiffin went all in and lost. 6 million easy, maybe what an off ramp for the Lafayette connector has in direct hard cost.

Neither Kiffin or the State of Louisiana will pay for that - your point

This is a fair post. These guys leaving can be personal decisions. Business decisions. Both. There is a whole lot of weirdness in the middle of that too with how polluted the transfer portal, agents, boosters, and the universities have made college athletics.

With all these transfers, the guys that are getting press for their NIL deals are more the exception. 95% or more of these athletes may be people most have never heard of.

Don't have to like the fact the players leave. Don't have to support them in any way after they leave. It's mostly business. Fans can treat it that way too. I'll support the ones that are enrolled in our university as long as they are enrolled. If they are not enrolled...bye.
