Thread: Worst UL Athletic year in 50 years

I have a lot of respect for Kevin Foote. I'm sure it was no fun writing that article. As a new year is upon us, men's and women's basketball teams are off to maybe the worst starts in the history of those programs. If baseball and softball do not step up to the plate and football goes 6 and 7 again, next year at this time, Kevin might be writing the exact same article. Let's hope not.

Two, if your boss is giving you a $500 a day budget and your competition has a $1,000 a day budget, you are mathematically behind. Before you start saying it is Maggard's responsibility to bring in money to add to what the university gives him, keep in mind that it is your responsibility to bring in money also, whether it is out of your own pocket, or whether you are soliciting others to donate to your athletic program. If you don't believe that, then you are part of the problem.

Here's the refutation to what may be conceived as "worst", the Bubas Cup. I understand many of you don't place any value in it, but it is the measuring stick within the conference for the overall strength of your athletic program. After Fall sports (6), Cajuns are tied for 3rd with 36.5 points, 12 points behind 1st. In the last three years, Cajuns finished 4th with 118.5 points, tied for 5th with 117 points, and 3rd with 127.5 points. There was a time when the Cajuns would struggle to reach 100 points and would finish in the bottom half of the conference. I recognize that most of you only care about the 5 "major" sports, but every athlete that puts on a Cajun uniform matters as does their sport. It's time for you to honor the value Bryan Maggard brings to this athletic department.
What you just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul

For the academicians who post here and don't think athletics is that important and often undermine academics, look at what Indiana football has done for their university and fans. It is inspiring to watch. Can people at UL one day "get it" that a highly successful football program will transform UL in perception, enrollment, and financial support. We've achieved academic success with R1 status, despite not having a med school, dental school, pharmacy scold, vet school or law school. Can we do something comparable
Athletically and quit screwing around with mediocrity.

Not that there can't be mismanagement, but athletics never incurs a financial loss.

What it really comes down to is how much a university is willing to budget for advertising.

Never gonna happen. They must be Forced to understand. I wonder what % of MH personnel watched Indy today or Ole' Miss/Georgia right now. Those schools are light years smarter than the BS f'n idiots running Louisiana.

If the transfer portal and NIL don't finish us off, you can rest assured that the P4 conferences will find another roadblock to throw at us.
Of course not, but that's not the point.
I've known about this for over 35 years.
Pay attention. The next nail in the coffin has already been hammered. And it came from the NCAA, not the power conferences.

Wrong. I don't talk or think like Jay Walker nor do I want to.

Read my later post. We are all part of the team. Others are to blame just as much as are we.

Sometimes I’m not sure anyone in that room could be dumber for anything posted here and surely not the well reasoned post with actual numbers cited . . .

No one wants to buy a crappy product. Plain and simple. Free stuff that is given any is always crap. You have to create a desire to “buy” a product. UL fails miserably at this.
