Thread: Steve Spurrier on NIL

  1. UL Football Steve Spurrier on NIL

Steve Spurrier is never shy about voicing his thoughts on college football. And he’s not a huge fan of a more recent development in the last few years. Well, a few of them.

There have been plenty of changes to the sport in that timeframe. The implementation of new transfer portal windows, reform of the transfer process in general, the introduction of NIL legislation and more

Good points. The players are basically working for mainly public universities. All public university positions salaries are posted.
If we all knew what every player was making then the market would balance itself out better, instead of donors and universities blindly throwing money out there and bidding against each other.

And the position would have to be advertised for a minimum number of days, And the potential employee would have to apply for the position, and/or bid for the contract.... lowest bid perhaps??

I know that NIL can apply to recruits and those whose name image and likeness already have value.

However I'm still confused as to how an outside entity (agent) dictates where the player goes, and what choices the player has.

Do the schools have any say? Do the players have any say. Due process.

Otherwise how are decisions being made while the portal is closed?

At least with the normal recruiting process you get open source offers.

It’s simple. Public entities can hire “at will” non classified employees. Nothing to see here
