we have actually been very successful in the majority of the players we have brought in via the portal, as while we do not hit the portal as hard as many schools, the guys we do bring in are usually very significant pieces that come in. Dez does a really good job of vetting those players, I just wish he was more active in it.
That being said, the more active you are in the portal, the more misses you will have.
Because of lack of NIL support, DES is most limitted to those players who are good enough to move the bar on the field but are willing to play without NIL compensation or little NIL compensation . . . I will go out on a limb and guess that the pool of athletes to choose from who criss cross these two attributes is VERY SMALL . . .
If they did it to themselves and harped on their small NIL budget, it would just makes the coaches stay in some other comfort zone instead of identifying talent.
On a personal note I totally agree with you, the criss cross of the two attributes you mentioned is extremely small.
However it's larger than the .0035 Louisiana needs from the total.
Those key ingredients are findable, but it will take work and only expect them to stay two years.
Houston's TE was a 2 star recruit. They got him on the back end of the portal but the point is at one point he was a criss cross of your two attributes
Do we still have that $10 a month NIL plan? I hate NIL, but I think I can do $10 a month. (Along with all of the other increases in season tickets) 🤔
They are there but rest assured in this instance it is much easier to identify the acorn that has blossomed into an oak tree after the blossom than it is to pick the right one out of a pile of acorns on the ground waiting to be picked that is THE ONE which will blossom - the latter is what DES is faced with the earlier is what one with an agenda unfairly throws into his face pretending it is an easy and often successful task
