College Football, as is, sucks. Our University wasted all those years as D-1A. We really could have climbed the ladder, but we have had idiot Presidents and Athletic Directors for decades and they let us rot in mediocrity. Really, they didn't even grow the University, they had plenty of opportunity.
I am hoping CMD gets it this off season and adapts as well. He needs to be active in the portal and get some filler bodies for the names we are losing. I know CMD has said in the past that his use of the portal is to fill in where needed only and make sure we have people that fit the culture, but it is no longer about fitting the culture, it is about making sure you have the best players available. We already know we are losing a number of significant players in Seniors and portal exits, the replacements have to be from the JUCO and transfer ranks where needed.
We can do both. There are plenty of guys in the SLC we can bring into our program. They are already familiar with the culture and can fill any needs we have. It's way past time for us to swallow our pride and start shopping local. Better chance to find guys that fit our culture and are more likely to be loyal.
I’m sorry, but we would need to increase our NIL budget by 100% in football to even begin to think about retaining guys.
Which is why I'm thinking use football as the sport to bring in money, i.e. play more money games, and just dump the excess into baseball. The Acadiana community, as it stands, isn't going to support UL football to the extend needed to be a consistent competitor going forward, and quite honestly, I can't blame them.
I'd rather invest my personal money in other sports where we can still have hope to compete on a regular basis.
