Nick Saban's comments were sharp, but true.
G5 has no business playing G4 CFP teams. They ARE buying the best athletes money can buy.
This is bigger than UL. I would much rather see UL play their peers for a championship versus the mismatch of having to win four games versus P4s IF we made the CFP.
I hope the NCAA and CFP can figure this out. As for UL, we can't afford to gamble money on "CFP feel goods". We have to make a decision if we are going to be a G5 of opportunity and commit to resetting each year.
The days of college football development, retention, and relationships are a farce. Let's not fool ourselves.
I cant blame any of these guys leaving. Rats off a sinking ship. Face it, we flubbed the most important hire of the programs history. Dare I say, we USL'ed it. Honestly shocked that so many people were in favor of this hire at the time. Could see this coming a mile away. I dont think these kids are leaving for big money...they're leaving because they see this program is a loser. Hurts to say it. Hurts to hear it, but....its the hard truth.
We need the NCAA to sponsor a 1A Tournament Championship just like they do for FCS. The P4 will keep their snobby NIT/CFP. Screw 'em.
It wouldn't be a "new" FCS. The NCAA tourney would be for all FBS/1A conferences. The snobs will turn down their invites to keep their little invitational, but the NCAA tourney will be the true National Championship. It's time to draw a line here.
The day UL and the G6 start their own “championship” is the day UL admits defeat and dies on the vine. While they’re at it, just finish off many fans and put ULL on the sports gear.
There will be no distinction between G6 and FCS other than an extra championship. Much like LHSAA.
from the mouth of Bill Davis' father:
"USER: The portal and worst thing to happen to college sports (along with NIL) strikes again! Small college football is dead!
FATHER: Well then how about embrace the change highlight the guys that have left after you developed them and bringing more guys to develop and highlight it's not that hard
USER: It's very hard when everyone has more $$$. The rich get richer in the NCAA
FATHER: This is true, but trust me players are looking for an OPPORTUNITY if they know they can go G5 develop, play, and transfer P4 they will come"
That's how they look at UL -- both the players and the people that are 'advising' them on their life decisions. We're a minor league team where you can get some experience and game film before ultimately transferring to a real school.
According to his father, we should be compiling highlight videos of Montrell Johnson and Terrence Carter to help recruit future defectors.
