Thread: Rising Sun Belt Reaches New Heights With James Madison's College Football Playoff Appearance

  1. UL Football Rising Sun Belt Reaches New Heights With James Madison's College Football Playoff Appearance

As the sun rises over Eugene, Ore., on Saturday, Dec. 20, the stage is set for the culminating moment of a 25-year rise of Sun Belt football, when No. 12-seeded James Madison steps onto the field at Autzen Stadium to take on No. 5-seeded Oregon in the College Football Playoff First Round.

The youngest Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) conference, having begun sponsoring football in 2001, the Sun Belt has built a nationally-noted brand over the past decade, ascending to its perch as the premier non-autonomy conference in the country.

I'm no fan of the Sunbelt but I am astounded that "forever claims" are being made based on first ever CFP appearance.

If you just glance at how far the conference has come since 2001, it would be the height of foolishness to judge the future on the outcome of the JMU Oregon game.

Turbine, it only gets worse from here with NIL and free transfers. We can't compete, and quite frankly, would be foolish to try.

    NIL is overrated

There will be no difference than there ever was.

There will be years of success and years of failure.

NIL will be a factor in some, less in others.

The school that learns to take advantage of the NIL squirtouts and high school bottlenecks will succeed more often than not.

Ok, big schools will have 20 million dollar annual NIL budgets and UL will have $100-400k
Why would anyone throw money away trying to compete against that?

    I wouldn't.

    Don't need to.

Three times that won't change how things have been for the last 80 years.

Until they change roster limits everthing will continue like it always has.
