Less kids are playing the sport, yet there are more slots....
Collectively, if you didnt pay the top players it isnt as if tgey would go to baseball or chess instead.

As a percentile, the top recruits are not nearly as good as in the past

That is the reason salaries began in sports, to keep the best in the game...the players were actually going to.other career fields. That will never be the case again

LOL... True story; my HS basketball coach was a first round draft choice by the [then] St. Louis Hawks.... He turned it down because he could make more money and travel less as a HS coach than as an NBA player.

    But not new schools.

If I read right FCS schools had an average of 150 football players 22 more than FBS schools averaged.

Now they will whittle down to 105 max except it will happen through attrition.

It going to get easier an easier to find quality football players.

Jut be ready for them to jump hi[

There will be way more people on div 1 scholarship. Money will be spent on spots that previously were not d1 scholarahip quality. Paying someone more doesnt make them better

After natural attrition is over there will 5000+ fewer college football players than there are today.

    Great point and great story.
And look at all the mlb players that went to the war, then for some reason, even with a draft, it seems nobody from mlb in vietnam era had to go.
I also bet ted williams didnt have to go back the second time, but probably wanted to.. way less people have flown fighters in a war than have played pro ball, some thkngs might still be priceless

Some how you would think this thing balances out eventually, as it is not sustainable except at about 16-20 schools.
